The Final Countdown

The last twelve months have been a mixture of excitement and anticipation for the team. We have come so far and now as we enter the last year before we set off, we find we have done so much, but at the same time, we realise how far we still have to go.

Earlier in 2024, we solidified our partnership with The Frank Bruno Foundation after visiting its premises in Northampton. We met up with the wonderful Frank Bruno and spoke about the work he is doing for Mental Health. We managed to get some filming done thanks to Dan at Hughes Productions, of which you might have seen on our home page. It was amazing work, and we are so proud of the effort Dan put in for us.

Starting at the end of June last year, we had the amazing GlastonBeoley Festival where we took the boat to our first show. We were positioned to the left of the stage, in a real prominent position. It was also the first time Tom, our new crewmember had also been allowed off the leash. Again, Dan from Hughes Productions came down and Tom added his bit to the video that you see today.

In November, DeadLegz hosted a quiz night, which was a wonderful and successful night with lots of prizes won, together with a raffle and some amazing giveaways of official, signed Frank Bruno merchandise, complete with a certificate of authenticity.

Following on from that, by about a week or two, DeadLegz did a 24 hour row and kept 2 rowing machines in constant use over the period of 24 hours. Each rower putting in an amazing 12 hours of effort. This was all possible thanks to Valhalla Gyms in Redditch where we occupied their upstairs cardio area.

In December DeadLegz visited La Gomera, and the start of the 2024 race. This was a big awakening for the already dedicated crew. It served to remind us that this was no average feat. It was a gruelling test of mental and physical endurance and that success is not guaranteed. While we had a great time at the start line, we came home with a renewed sense of commitment and dedication.

As we are now in the last year. DeadLegz are training 4 or 5 times a week at the gym, as well as regular rowing at home. We have partnered with local campaigner for the DropTheKnife campaign. We have been on the TV news and even the radio a few times to try and get some large corporate sponsors engaged.

The next few months are going to be very busy as we need this summer to get the boat out onto the water and get our training hours in.
